Making Muffins

I tried out another Frills in the Hills recipe yesterday. I gave the apple and raspberry muffins a go and let me tell you they are A-mazing! I made mine cupcake size and I got 18 out of the recipe. I also decided to ice them with cream cheese icing. I took a bunch to work for the girls who loved them. Then mum, dad and hayley came around for afternoon tea today and they enjoyed them too. So if your looking for a great muffin recipe give these a go!

Sam, Molly and Brooke Rocked It!

Last night I had the pleasure of watching the McClymonts in concert at Twin Towns with my mummy. We went down early to had dinner with the family and then Mum and I went to the concert while Dad, Corey, Hayley and Kieran had drinks and waited for us. The concert was AMAZING! The girls were so lovely and have the most beautiful voices. After the concert they hung around to do signings and I got my cd signed and this photo:

We stood in line for half an hour but it was totally worth it. When I got to the front Sam (on the far left) told me I looked like a big ray of sunshine! If you get the chance to see these girls perform I highly recommend you go. They are fantastic and you won't regret it.

Finger Buns are Scrumdiddilyumptious

I am quite a fan of finger buns so when I saw this recipe over at Frills in the Hills I just knew I would be making them. The recipe is super easy to make and is absolutely scrumdiddilyumptious (I googled the spelling of that by the way). I bought them over to my mum and dads house for afternoon tea and everyone loved them!

I didn't put any colouring in my icing but put a couple of drops of vanilla essence in instead. I topped one with sprinkles but they weren't sticking very well so I topped the rest with cinnamon. It was delicious! I highly recommend this recipe to everyone. I will probably make them again in a few weeks for lunches when uni goes back.

Sunshine on A Rainy Day

Yesterday was a very rainy gloomy day on the "sunny' Gold Coast and needless to say it was slightly depressing. So in a bid to brighten the day I got to work on my new yellow skirt. My new skirt was inspired by this photo of the lovely miss Zooey Deschanel which I found via the Cat of Impossible Colour.
I just loved the colour combo of the outfit but was not entirely sure I would be able to pull off yellow shorts so decided to make a skirt instead. This one is a lot more gathered then the other skirts I have made. The skirt part is 2.5 times the width of the waistband so there is a lot of gathering.
I quite like the outfit aswell. It made me feel a little bit schoolgirl but not in a bad way. I am just so excited to be back in the sewing room. I can't wait to make more stuff!

Happy (late) Valentines Day!

I know I am a day late but I want to wish everyone a happy valentines. I hope you all had a fantastic day whether you spent it with friends, family or a special someone. Corey and I spent the day with my sister and her boyfriend doing the Green Challenge at Currumbin Wildife Sanctuary. It is a rope course that is high up in the trees. It is super fun but a massive workout! My arms and stomach are so sore today from doing it.

We don't usually do valentines day presents. We usually will just go do something during the day then have a nice dinner together. But this year Corey decided he wanted to do presents because there was something he want to buy me. And this is what he got me.......

Photoshop Elements 8 for my mac! How cool is that! I was so excited and had no idea he was going to get me it. I have been wanting it for ages but with moving out have been waiting to save up a bit more money before I bought it. I am so happy that Corey bought it for me. Now I just have to figure out how to use it ;) I am going to search the net for some tutorials so I can learn how to do cool stuff with it. If you know of any tutes that are good let me know.

For dinner Corey made steak and garlic prawns and it was delicious! Corey's brother-in-law makes amazing garlic prawns and gave Corey his recipe to use. He was so nervous cooking them but they turned out fantastic. For dessert I made Red Velvet Cake that I cut into love hearts with a cookie cutter. They were delicious served with ice-cream.

I hope everyone had a fantastic love filled Valentines Day how every you spent it!

My New Sewing Room

Yesterday afternoon I finally knuckled down and started unpacking my sewing room. I have gotten so over unpacking and unfortunately my sewing room ended up being neglected when we moved in. It only took me about an hour to get all unpacked so I am super happy that I finally did it. Now I can start sewing again! Here are some pics:

My desk......
The cupboard right next to my desk has a shelf in it which holds all my fabric..........

And then to the left of my desk is Molly the Mannequin and another bookshelf. This bookshelf has my scrapbooking container on the bottom, then all my sewing and knitting books, then a shelf with all my patterns, buttons, ribbon and bits and pieces. Then the last shelf holds all my uni books and stuff.

The cool thing about the room is that even with all my stuff in here there is all this space left......
We are going to put a sofa bed in the room so that if people want to stay we can just fold the bed out but it also gives me all that space to use when I need to. So hopefully now that the room is all set up I will be able to get back into my sewing. I can't wait to get started!

What's Cooking?

One thing that I am having to get used to with moving out is cooking dinner. Don't get me wrong I love to cook but my idea of fun cooking is cakes and desserts not dinners. So in a bid to help me get a bit more motivated with my cooking I decided to start a new feature called What's Cooking? So for my first recipe I made Greek Chicken Burgers from Recipes+.

600g chicken mince
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 brown onion chopped finely
1 tablespoon chopped oregano
1 egg lightly beaten
100g fetta crumbled

  1. combine mince, oregano, breadcrumbs, onion and egg in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Add fetta and mix until well combined.
  2. Using damp hands shape mixture into 6 patties place on greased tray and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. Barbecue or pan fry patties and place on bread rolls with your favourite burger fillings.
These burgers were super duper easy to make and delicious! I will definately be making them again. If anyone gives the recipe a try let me know what you think of it.

Note: I only used 500g of mince and got 5 patties out of it but I made mine rather big. You could probably get 7 or 8 out of the mixture if you didn't make them as thick as I did. There was also no fresh oregano in the shop when we went so I used dried but they tasted just as delicious.

Prettying Up The House

As soon as we got approved for our house I started searching the net for some great ideas on how to decorate. I really wanted to make the house our own but obviously since we are renting we can't do anything major. The dining table was a great project for injecting our own personalities into the place. For my second project I used this tutorial from Design Sponge to make a grocery list. I actually thought I would get this project done a lot quicker but it took me till today to find paper I wanted to use. So here it is............

Cute huh? The actual grocery list part is a free printable that comes with the tutorial. I had trouble finding wooden clipboards but eventually found them in Big W. And here is another pic so you can actually see the pretty paper I used.

Scrapbooking paper is not long enough to cover the whole clipboard so I used the strawberry pattern paper for the top and plain green for the bottom. I then glued some thin ribbon across the join to make it look a little neater. I am really happy with the result and it looks great on the side of our fridge. If anyone else uses the tutorial let me know so I can check out your results.

We interrupt this blogging break for a short announcement....

Hey guys! It has been a week since I last posted and this is why.......

That is the current state of my sewing room. We have been busy unpacking the rest of the house so the sewing room unfortunately has been neglected. I am hoping to get it unpacked on Monday. I wanted to get it done this week but I ran out of time and we are leaving tomorrow morning to go camping for a few nights so it will have to wait till Monday. But check back in next week and hopefully I will have some pics of the new house and hopefully some crafting too. See you soon!
